Blacksmith Annex Project
A Joint Project of the Timber Framers Guild
& the John C. Campbell Folk School
Brasstown, North Carolina
May 29 - June 13, 2009
On-Line Application
A 50' by 50' timber frame addition to the existing historic Francis Whitaker Blacksmith Shop will be built during this two-week event held on the campus of the John C. Campbell Folk School. Details may be found at www.tfguild.org.
We expect this event to be overbooked, and yet we need to establish a solid balance of experienced and inexperienced timber frame and blacksmith participants. To that end, your submission of these forms does not constitute our acceptance of your application. However, we will do everything we can to find a spot and meaningful work for you. We will provide you with a formal notification of your participation status, and expect to be able to do this by February 15, 2009. Application Deadline for all categories is May 15, 2009.
In general we expect timber frame event participants to commit to the entire two weeks. Non-timber framer participants are encouraged to, as well. However, we are interested in opening this experience to as many as possible, and so are happy to discuss variations.
Types of participation:
- Category A: Full participant in the timber frame event. Tuition of $350 will apply.
- Category B: Full participant in the timber frame event. Tuition waiver requested by resume or reputation
- Category C: Friend / alum of JCCFS with blacksmithing skills. Room / board fees may apply.
- Category D: Friend / alum of JCCFS as a general volunteer. Room / board fees may apply.
Tuition for the two-week workshop is $350 and includes room and camping spot or dorm bed and most meals (no lunch or dinner Saturday, June 6, and no breakfast and lunch Sunday, June 7). Some scholarship assistance may be available; please inquire. Tuition may be waived for professional timber framers and/or individuals who have participated in previous TFG projects. If seeking a tuition waiver, please provide a resume, including recent timber frame projects.
Participants will be required to sign a "Liability and Release Waiver" and will be asked for permission to publish your image and name.
Workshop Application
Upon acceptance of your application, we will send you a confirmation packet from the John C. Campbell Folk School which will include information on the school, a health form, a dietary form, and vehicle identification information.
A tool list, a scope of work document and waivers are available on the Timber Framers Guild web site, www.tfguild.org.
Cancellation Policy: Notification of cancellation should be received by us no later than May 22, 2009.
