The French Connections

From May 12-18 fifteen Guild members visited France on our first timber framing tour of that marvelous country. Most stayed on after the formal tour to see additional sights and make more friends. Besides visiting cathedrals, barns, market halls and other historic (and new) timber framed structures, we also visited three schools for the compagnon du devoir, the fraternity of tradesmen whose tradition of apprenticeship training goes back to the Middle Ages. The connections made at these schools promise to provide exciting exchanges opportunities in the future for both our organizations on both sides of the Atlantic.

Watch for a full report on the France tour, the timber framing we saw, and the prospects that will come from it in the September issue of the Guild's quarterly journal, Timber Framing.
